Not A Place
Year: 2025
Location: Antipodes Island, New Zealand
Area: xxx
Phase: Competition (NONA | Nature Retreat – New Zealand Competition)
Here, people do not inhabit a building, but “walk into themselves.” We design a sequence of spaces that awakens the six senses and the body’s intuitive response to the environment. Responding to the extreme climate with minimal intervention, the project utilizes thickened shipping containers and GFRC panels—lightweight, recyclable elements that evoke the essential “primitive hut.”
Boundaries between architecture and landscape dissolve, fostering a profound reunion with nature. The entire structure is prefabricated and detachable, built without damaging the terrain. Ultimately, we do not leave behind permanent architecture on the site, but rather leave behind experiences in time.
